2017-2018 CTPP Fellows

Lieutenant Colonel Gabe Barton is an Infantry officer from Windham, NH. He received his commission in 1996 through ROTC at the University of Massachusetts at Lowell where he earned a BS in Plastics Engineering. He later earned an MA in Homeland Security from American Public University. He has served in and commanded a variety of infantry units throughout his career. Gabe has significant operational experience in Iraq and Afghanistan. His assignments have also brought him to Europe, Southern and Eastern Africa, and several other countries in the Middle East. He has worked at both the Department of Homeland Security and the Defense Intelligence Agency.

 

 

 

 


Lieutenant Colonel James McGahey is a career U.S. Army Infantry Officer from Brighton, MI. He was commissioned as a distinguished military graduate from Western Michigan University with a B.A. in History in 1995. James served in leadership positions from platoon to squadron, a combatant command operational level planner, and most recently as a military assistant to the commanding general in Afghanistan. James has multiple tours to the Middle East and eastern Europe as well as experience countering transnational criminal organizations within North America. In 2008, James earned a master’s degree from the Naval War College in National Security and Strategic Studies.

 

 

 

 


Colonel Nate Prussian graduated Bowling Green State University in 1995 as a Distinguished Military Graduate, receiving a Regular Army commission in the Infantry.  Following his assignment to the 82nd Airborne Division Nate attended and completed the Special Forces Qualification Courses and was assigned to 1st Special Forces Group.  Nate has commanded in combat at every level, serving in Kosovo, the Philippines, Iraq, Afghanistan, and most recently in Syria. Nate’s operational assignments also include duty in Europe and Africa. Nate holds a master’s degree from National Defense University, and from 2012-2013 served in the Office of the Secretary of Defense as a policy advisor. Nate recently relinquished his second battalion command in order to attend the Fellowship Program at Duke. His next duty assignment will be as commanding officer of the 3rd Special Forces Group at Fort Bragg—responsible for special forces activities in Africa.

 

 

 

 


Lieutenant Colonel Scott Rawlinson, a native of Alabama, is a career Public Affairs Officer. Graduating from the University of North Alabama in 1995, he was commissioned as a Military Intelligence officer and subsequently earned a Master of Arts in Broadcasting from the University of Alabama. After serving in the Military Intelligence and the Adjutant General Corps in Fort Riley and Korea, he began his Public Affairs career in Germany. Scott has since served in Iraq with the 1st Cavalry Division; in Africa with Special Operations Command, Africa; and in Korea with the 2nd Infantry Division. He recently served as the Director of the Office of the Chief of Public Affairs-Midwest in Chicago, Illinois, where he supported Army Community Relations efforts in a 16-state region throughout the Midwest.
