The fellows met with GEN Martin Dempsey, USA (retired), the former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to discuss a military viewpoint on providing military advice to elected civilian leaders. Dempsey’s role as the principal military advisor to both the President and the Secretary of Defense provided an interesting perspective for the Duke Fellows.
